Lissa Holloway-Attaway: Urban Organicism Emergent Media, and Transformative Space

My colleague at the Blekinge Institute of Technology, Lissa Holloway-Attaway, discusses various digital transformative spaces.

Theoretical influences:
1. The Futurist Manifesto
2. Flattening, de-stabilizing (Ed Soja, Rem Koolhas, Scott McQuire)
3. Co-presence, co-constitution
4. User-generated content, user-configured space (McQuire)

Mixed reality and virtual co-presence. Examples: Flicker Big Art Group and Lip Synch Ex Machina, The Great War Hotel Modern. Michael Jackson's Thriller Re-enactment, Cebu Prison, Philippines. TXTual Healing. A Show of Hands. Body Movies.

Sc(re)enic = screen + scene. Process of interactive revision, reflection, operating in systems of discursive representations. The human body is a core site for critical investigation. Embodiment is not a discursive abstract in contemporary media, embodiment is not a representational referent, embodiment is prior to notions of external visual rendering. Mark Hansen, Bodies in Code and the mixed reality paradigm.
